Edward J. Gutleber, a member of Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C.’s Tax Certiorari and Condemnation practice, has been a member of the firm since 1995 . He practices a the firm’s Garden City office. Mr. Gutleber’s practice includes real property tax law, representing assessment reductions, tax refunds and exemptions. In the area of eminent domain law, he represents property owners and tenants in appropriation damage claims against state, county, town and local condemning authorities.
Mr. Gutleber received a J.D. degree from Pace University School of Law in 1980, and a B.A. degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1976. He is admitted to practice law in New York State and before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the Second Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Prior to joining Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. in 1988, Mr. Gutleber served as the Deputy Chief of the Municipal Services Bureau, Real Estate and Condemnation Unit of the Suffolk County Attorney’s Office in Hauppauge, New York and as a principal litigation attorney in county condemnation, real estate title and real property tax cases.
Mr. Gutleber is an active member of the Suffolk County and New York State Bar Associations. He served as Dean of the Suffolk Academy of Law from 1991 until 1993, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Suffolk County Bar Association from 1991 until 1994. He has served on the Board of the Suffolk County Bar Pro Bono Foundation since 1990. Also at the Suffolk County Bar Association, Mr. Gutleber was the chair of the Condemnation and Tax Certiorari Committee from 1996 until 1998, as well as the chair of the Municipal Law Committee from 1989 until 1991. He has also been appointed to numerous special committees and task forces of the Suffolk Bar.
Mr. Gutleber was elected as a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation in 1999. He was a member of the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates from 1994 until 2002, and was appointed to the State Bar Task Force on Court Reorganization and the Special Committee to Study Tax Certiorari Practices. |
